Germany is ideally placed for visits to the rest of Europe and, being a large country, contains many sights worth seeing. This is particularly so since the re-unification in 1989/90. BFG is a busy but interesting posting with a great many Service facilities covering a wide variety of sports and activities to suit all tastes and ages. The British Forces Germany (BFG) is the successor of the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) and Royal Air Force Germany (RAFG), which were disbanded in 1994 after the end of the Cold War. The BFG is concentrated in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony.
The BFG is a considerably reduced entity compared to the BAOR, which had consisted of I Corps and its three divisions. British Forces Germany is now comprised of three main armoured brigades under the control of 1st (UK) Armoured Division, whose HQ is based at Herford near Bielefeld.
